ePrep participation at ICT 2008, Lyon, November 25 to 27, 2008

The Europe' s biggest research event for information and communication technologies, ICT 2008, held from November 25 to 27 in Lyon (France), on the occasion of the launching of the 2009-2010 ICT Workprogramme of the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technology development (FP7). ePrep attended the event and propose an account (in French).
ePrep Steering Committee meeting
November 14, 2008
Eleven members of the ePrep Steering Committee held a meeting on November 14, 2008, at the Conférence des grandes écoles, to decide the creation of a consortium named Espace numérique prépas (Digital workspace for CPGEs). These members were representative of organisations (APPLS, APHEC, CGE, CNED, ePrep, ESSEC, INRIA, ParisTech, UPA, UPLS, APS) having signed an engagement letter for this project launched on May 17, 2008, on the occasion of a previous ePrep Steering Committee meeting. Unfortunately, the CPGE teachers' associations (APHEC, APPLS, UPA, UPLS, UPS) were nor able to give a positive decision.
2008 ePrep International Thematic Seminar Proceedings

Organised with the support of the Conférence des grandes écoles and of the Union des professeurs de spéciales, the 2008 ePrep International Thematic Seminar held at Ecole Centrale de Pékin (Beijing, China) on October 28. This seminar brought together 36 participants, including an ePrep delegation composed of 19 members coming especially from France, to work on the theme "ePrep and International Cooperation: activities and tools". In the framework of the PALETTE project, having ePrep and INRIA as its partners, an INRIA team has developed specific functionalities of the LimSee3 software in response to the needs of the ePrep Community of Practice for its Pedagogical Innovation project. A short film (11 minutes) shows a Participatory Design session on the theme "Annotations with LimSee3 for a real exam at Lycée Henri IV". The film (in French) is available at this Web page.

Thot informs its subscribers about the pedagogical content available on the ePrep platform

The 31 500 Thot professional subscribers have been recently informed that CPGE teachers members of the ePrep Community of practice have put online, in free access, on their platform, more than 130 pedagogical modules representing about 1400 pages.

The synthesis of the 2008 ePrep Workshop which was held on May 16-17, 2008 at Supélec, Gif-sur-Yvette (France), on the theme " ICT for Education, for which pedagogical efficiency?", was published in the Bulletin vert of the Union des profeseurs de spéciales (UPS), number 223 (July 2008). The article (available here, in French) includes the opening address of Patricia Manson, Head of Unit Cultural Heritage and Technology Enhanced Learning, Directorate E, Information Society and Media Directorate-General , European Commission, and the closing address of Christian Margaria, President of the Conférence des grandes écoles.
ePrep Francophone Platform: more than 130 pedagogical modules online

ePrep Francophone Platform already proposes more than 1400 pages of pedagogical content (in French) developed by CPGE teachers members of the ePrep Community of Practice. About 50 courses, 50 series of exercices, and 40 practical training modules, most often pdf files structured thanks to the SCORM standard, are proposed under a Creative Commons License. If at the moment contents are principally Physics modules and Frenh for Sciences modules, the Platform is open to all disciplines. Two experimental XML modules, developed in the framework of the PALETTE European project, are also available (a multimedia History course in SMIL and a Physics course in XHTML/MatMl). The Platform is hosted by Ecole Polytechnique.

The e-Educ Report, realised by Syntec on the theme of the digital development at school, has been delivered to Xavier Darcos, French Minister for Education, on May 21, 2008. Nathalie Van de Wiele, Director of ePrep, has been interviewed on March 6 in the framework of this Report by two members of the e-Educ mission, especially for the fourth axe of the Report ("Les leviers de la conduite et de l'accompagnement du changement"). 2008 ePrep International Workshop

Having as its patrons the French Ministers Valérie Pécresse and Xavier Darcos, this fourth edition of the ePrep Workshop brought together 117 participants with 11 countries represented. Jointly organised by ePrep and the Commission TICE des CPGE, hosted by Supélec, supported by the Conférence des grandes écoles and the CPGE Teachers' Unions (APHEC, APPLS, UPA, UPLS, UPS), the workshop was a unique opportunity to work together on consensual solutions for the future. Presentation of ePrep CoP developments at the European Commission

On the occasion of the second Review of the EU-funded project PALETTE, which includes ePrep in its partnership, the developments of the ePrep CoP have been presented to the European Commission in Luxembourg. Jean-Marc Wolff, Manager of the "Pedagogical Innovation" ePrep project, first presented the Participative Design trial using the LimSee3 service developed by INRIA Rhône-Alpes (see the presentation here). Then, Nathalie Van de Wiele, ePrep manager, provided the audience with an overall view of the projects developed by the ePrep CoP in relation with the PALETTE project and concluded with a very positive statement concerning the developments occurred since the first Review Meeting (see the presentation here).

LimSee3 training in the framework of the PALETTE project

A training session devoted to LimSee3, a multimedia authoring tool developed in the framework of the PALETTE project by INRIA Rhône-Alpes (WAM team), has been organised by ePrep for the members of its Community of practice with the support of PALETTE researchers on January 24, 2008 at Lycée Henri IV, in Paris. In his report of Jan. 11, 2008 on Digital University prepared at the request of Valérie Pécresse, French Minister for Higher Education and Research, Henri Isaac assesses the activities developed so far in the Technology Enhanced Learning domain, underlining what is at stake. The ePrep initiative, namely its pedagogical platform, is highlighted. A set of recommendations aiming at improving the efficiency of the French university system in this field are proposed. The European Commission Unit E3 (Cultural Heritage and Technology-enhanced Learning) has organised two Information days for the third ICT Call of the seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technology Development, "Challenge 4 - Objective 1" ( Digital Libraries and Technology-enhanced Learning). ePrep attended the Technology-enhanced Learning (TeLearn) day, on December 18. The fourth edition of the ePrep International Workshop, co-organised by ePrep and the Commission TICE inter-unions des CPGE, will take place on May 16 & 17, 2008 at Supélec, Gif-sur-Yvette Campus. The event, addressing the theme "pedagogical efficiency through ICTs", will propose two plenary sessions and five parallel sessions on specific topics selected to answer questions raised by colleagues teaching various disciplines in CPGE or similar establishments. A call for papers related to these thematic sessions is open until March 10, 2008. Detailed information to answer this call and register is available on this site.

Launched in July 2001, the ePrep Web site has been entirely renovated. This Web site is developed with a constant concern to provide as much information as possible about ICT in CPGE in free access mode. The proceedings of the ePrep international and thematic seminars are available online (more than 250 downloadable presentations). The objectives and results of other ePrep activities are also described: composition of the ePrep Committees, development of the ePrep Community of pratice and developement of its projects, ICT watch, studies and researches conducted by ePrep.
ePrep endorses the EuroAfrica-ICT Manifesto

The EuroAfrica-ICT Manifeso has been released today in Brussels. Prepared in the framework of the START project supported by the European Commission, it recommends the strengthening of EU-Africa S&T cooperation on ICT, particularly under FP7, at a time when the revision of the ICT work programme in under process. Endorsed by around 200 European and African organisations including ePrep, it can be dowloaded here.

A first draft ontology for the ePrep CoP

In the framework of the PALETTE European project and in relation with the Wikiprepas project (developed with the SweetWiki PALETTE tool by ePrep Community of Practice), Nathalie Van de Wiele, member of the PALETTE consortium, has prepared a research paper entitled "Drafting the ePrep CoP ontology - Methodology and lessons learned" (paper available here).
